Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

GigPulse is an independent Canadian website operated by Tyler Heinrichs. This policy explains what information may be collected when you visit gigpulseapp.ca, use the Canadian gig-worker tax calculator, read the blog, follow an external link, or contact us.

By using the site, you acknowledge this policy. This policy does not replace any privacy notice provided by a third-party service that you visit through a link on GigPulse.

2. Information you enter into the calculator

The calculator is designed to process the values you enter in your browser, including your province or territory, gross gig income, vehicle costs, business-use percentage, and selected business expenses. The current calculator does not require an account and does not send those calculator inputs or results to a GigPulse database or save them as a user profile.

Calculator inputs may still be visible to anyone who can access your device, browser, screen, or browser history. Do not enter passwords, tax documents, bank details, government identification numbers, or other sensitive information into the calculator. Calculator estimates are informational only and are not a tax return, tax advice, or an official CRA assessment.

3. Information collected automatically

When you visit the site, GigPulse and its service providers may receive technical and usage information such as your IP address, approximate location, browser and device type, operating system, pages or URLs visited, referring page, dates and times, network information, and interactions with the site. This information may be collected through cookies, pixels, local storage, JavaScript, server logs, or similar technologies.

We use this information to operate and secure the site, understand traffic and site performance, measure content and advertising, prevent fraud and abuse, remember preferences, respond to technical problems, and improve GigPulse. We do not intentionally use calculator inputs to create individualized tax advice or sell calculator results as a user profile.

4. Cookies, local storage, and preferences

GigPulse uses browser local storage to remember your dark-mode preference. This preference is stored on your device and is not intended to identify you. You can clear local storage through your browser settings.

GigPulse also stores a first-touch attribution record in local storage under gp_first, containing your traffic channel, first landing-page path, referring URL, and capture time. A random per-tab session identifier is stored in session storage under gp_sid. These records do not request a name or email and are not designed to identify you; the referring URL may include information already present in that URL. They stay in your browser unless you click a link to a Gumroad page, as explained below. You can clear them through your browser settings.

Third-party services described below may use cookies, local storage, pixels, tags, or similar technologies for functionality, analytics, advertising, attribution, security, and fraud prevention. The availability and purpose of those technologies can change according to each provider’s settings and policies. Blocking cookies or scripts may affect some site features or advertising functionality.

5. Google AdSense and advertising

GigPulse uses Google AdSense or related Google publisher advertising services to display or prepare to display advertisements. Google and third-party vendors may use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to GigPulse or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this site or other sites on the internet.

Depending on your settings, location, consent choices, and eligibility, Google and its advertising partners may collect or receive information such as your IP address, the URL of the page you are visiting, browser and device information, cookie or advertising identifiers, approximate location, ad impressions, and interactions. They may use that information to deliver, personalize, measure, secure, and limit advertising, and to detect fraud or abuse. Ads may be contextual, personalized, non-personalized, or limited depending on applicable requirements and settings.

You can control or opt out of personalized advertising through Google Ads Settings. You may also visit aboutads.info for information about opting out of some third-party vendors’ personalized advertising. These choices may be device- or browser-specific, and you may still see contextual or non-personalized ads.

Google’s explanation of how it uses information from sites that use its services is available in its partner-site privacy information. Google’s handling of information is governed by Google’s own policies and terms, not this policy.

6. Consent for users in Europe

As of the effective date of this policy, GigPulse does not display a separate consent banner in its own site code. If GigPulse serves personalized advertising to users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, Google requires publishers to use a Google-certified consent management platform integrated with the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework before serving that personalized advertising. Any consent or withdrawal controls provided by Google, Grow.me, or another provider will be presented and managed according to that provider’s implementation.

Privacy and consent requirements vary by jurisdiction. The operator must configure and maintain the appropriate consent solution before serving personalized ads in regions where consent is required. This policy describes the current site practices but does not promise that a particular technology is used for every visitor or that a provider’s processing complies with every law in every location.

7. Analytics and measurement providers

GigPulse uses the following analytics and measurement services:

• Google Analytics: used to measure visits, page views, navigation, events, device or browser information, and general site usage. Google may use cookies and similar identifiers. You can learn more about Google Analytics privacy practices at Google Analytics Help.
• Vercel Analytics: used to understand site traffic, performance, and usage through the site’s hosting and analytics infrastructure. See Vercel’s privacy information.
• Fathom Analytics: used on the production site for privacy-focused traffic measurement and event tracking, including anonymous product-link click counts. See Fathom’s privacy policy.

When beacon mode is enabled, our first-party collector receives anonymous session data, including pages viewed, time on page, product-link clicks, and a random visitor ID. We use it to understand which content is useful. We do not sell or share this data.

These providers may process technical information, usage events, referral information, and identifiers according to their own policies and the configuration active on the site. Analytics data is used for measurement and improvement; it is not intended to be used by GigPulse to provide individualized tax advice.

8. Grow.me

GigPulse loads Grow.me tools, including the Grow.me Faves functionality. Grow.me may use cookies, local storage, pixels, or similar technologies to provide its features, remember interactions, measure usage, and support personalization or attribution. Grow.me may receive technical and usage information from your browser when its tools load or are used. See Mediavine’s Legal and Privacy Center for Grow’s current practices and privacy choices.

9. Affiliate links and external services

Some blog posts contain links to third-party services and products. Clicking an external link takes you away from GigPulse, and the third party may collect information under its own privacy policy, terms, cookies, and tracking technologies. We do not control or receive all information collected by those services.

• Amazon Associates: Some product links are Amazon affiliate links. If you click one, Amazon or its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to attribute the visit or a purchase. GigPulse may receive a commission if you make a qualifying purchase, at no additional cost to you. See Amazon’s privacy notice and the disclosures in the relevant article.
• Gumroad: When you click a GigPulse link to a Gumroad page, we add your referral channel and first landing-page path as standard UTM parameters. The browser also includes a random per-tab session identifier. Gumroad may record these parameters with an order if you purchase, helping us understand which articles and traffic sources are useful. This attribution is sent to Gumroad through the link only; we do not send it to another third party. Gumroad may separately collect information about your visit, account, payment, purchase, download, and communications under its own policies. See Gumroad’s privacy policy.
• KOHO: Some articles may contain KOHO affiliate links. If you follow one, KOHO and its affiliate partners may process referral, technical, or conversion information under their own terms and privacy policies. GigPulse may receive compensation for a qualifying action at no additional cost to the reader. Review KOHO’s current privacy policy and promotion terms before signing up.
• Government and other websites: GigPulse links to CRA, provincial or territorial government, app-store, and other third-party pages for reference. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which apply when you visit them.

10. Hosting, fonts, and security

GigPulse is hosted and delivered through web infrastructure that may process server requests, IP addresses, browser and device information, security events, and diagnostic logs. The site uses Next.js and its font optimization system; font files may be bundled and served through the site rather than requested from Google at runtime. Hosting and infrastructure providers may process information as described in their own policies.

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to a small informational website. No transmission or storage system is completely secure. Do not send confidential tax, identity, payment, or account information by email or through the calculator.

11. Email and contact information

The Contact page provides a mailto link rather than an on-site contact form. If you email GigPulse, we receive your email address, message, attachments, and any information you choose to include. Email is handled through the email providers used by the sender and recipient, including Gmail where applicable. We use contact information to respond, troubleshoot, consider suggestions, maintain appropriate communication records, and protect the service.

Do not email passwords, government identification, bank details, tax returns, CRA account credentials, or other sensitive documents. We do not intentionally sell contact information.

12. How long information is kept

GigPulse does not maintain a user account database or intentionally retain calculator inputs as a user record. Technical logs, analytics records, advertising records, local-storage preferences, and email messages may be retained by GigPulse or the applicable provider for periods determined by operational needs, security, legal obligations, provider settings, and provider policies. We do not control the retention periods of Google, Vercel, Fathom, Grow.me, Amazon, Gumroad, hosting, email, or other third-party providers.

13. Disclosure and international processing

We may disclose information to service providers that host, secure, analyze, advertise on, measure, or support the site; to third parties when you choose to follow an external link; when required by law or legal process; or when reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, property, or the integrity of GigPulse. Providers may process information in Canada, the United States, or other jurisdictions where they operate. Their own privacy policies govern their processing.

14. Your choices and privacy rights

Depending on where you live, applicable privacy law may give you rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or information about personal information we hold, or to object to or limit certain processing. You can also control cookies and local storage through your browser, use Google Ads Settings, use provider opt-out tools, and avoid following optional third-party links.

To ask a privacy question or make a privacy request, email gigpulsecontact@gmail.com. Please describe the request and provide enough information for us to locate it. We may need to verify your identity, may not be able to identify information held only by a third party, and may retain information where permitted or required by law.

15. Children

GigPulse is not directed at children and does not knowingly solicit personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can assess the request and take appropriate steps.

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the website, services, advertising, analytics, laws, or privacy practices change. The revised policy will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Your continued use of GigPulse after an update means you acknowledge the revised policy.
